2014 SR Suntour Fork Dropout Recall (Trek)

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Trek has voluntarily issued a safety recall on its bicycles made with SR Suntour suspension forks.

The recall issue
These bicycles have been recalled because the fork dropouts can break. If this happens, it poses a fall hazard to riders. The recalled Trek bikes were sold at authorized Trek dealers nationwide between May 2010 and June 2014 for between $600 and $1,370.

There have been 28 reported incidents of broken forks. Five injuries have been reported, including minor bruises, a separated shoulder, and broken bones.

How to identify if you have this fork
This recall involves roughly 120,000 model year 2011-2013 Trek bicycles with SR Suntour NEX, NRX, XCM, and XCT suspension forks. The models recalled are the 2011 Montare, Utopia, Wahoo, Marlin, and Marlin Single Speed; the 2012 8.3 DS, 8.4 DS, 8.5 DS, Neko SL, Wahoo, Marlin, and Marlin Single Speed; and the 2013 8.3 DS, 8.4 DS, 8.5 DS, 8.6 DS, Neko SL, Cali, Wahoo, and Marlin.

The bikes have the brand name "Trek" on the down tube and the model name on the top tube. The fork's model name is printed on the outer sides of the fork.

Bicycles with a serial number ending in F, G, or H should be taken to a dealer for inspection. The serial number is on the frame of the bicycle under the bottom bracket.

The remedy
If you have one of these bicycles, please stop riding it immediately and return it to us (or your nearest authorized Trek retailer). Consumers with an NRX model will receive a free RST Vita replacement fork while those with NEX, XCM, and XCT models will receive a new quick-release skewer. Either will be installed at no cost.
